N. Prabhakaran is a noted short story writer, novelist, poet, playwright, essayist and columnist in Malayalam. He was born in Parassinikkatavu in Kannur district on 30 December 1952. His parents are N. Kunhambu and A. Kalliani. He studied at Madayi L P School, Govt. High School, Madayi, Payyannur College and Govt. Brennen College, Thalassery. He served as a lecturer in the Dept. of Malayalam in Brennen College and retired while serving as the Head of the Department. He is a visiting professor of Malayalam now at University of Calicut.

His wife is named Reena.

Literary career

Though N. Prabhakaran began writing in 1966, he only established himself as a writer with the short story "Ottayante Pappan", published in 1971. The story won the first prize in the short story competition for college students conducted by Mathrubhumi weekly in connection with its Vishu special.

Now N. Prabhakaran has 34 books to his credit.
