Murdoch University Dubai is a core branch of Murdoch University, which is based in Perth, Western Australia.[1] The Dubai campus was inaugurated in 2008 by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and is situated at the heart of the Dubai International Academic City, Dubai, UAE.[2] The university has built its reputation through academic excellence in the field of Media, Business, on and Information Technology since 2008.[3][4]

Mr. Zafar Siddiqi is Chairman and Co-Founder of Murdoch University Dubai and also the Chairman and Co-Founder of CNBC Africa, Chairman and Founder of CNBC Arabia and President and Founder of CNBC Pakistan. Murdoch has its Vice Chairman as Mr. Rakesh Wahi[5] who is also the founder of - CNBC Africa, Forbes Africa, ABN Productions, ABN Training Institute, ABN Newswire Services, ABN Digital, ABN Pictures, ABN Education Trust, Trans National Education, Ananya Farms and Tech One Global.[6]

Rankings and accreditation

Murdoch University currently stands within top 65 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of the world’s top 100 universities under 50 years old making it the 9th highest of the 16 Australian universities included in the top 100. In addition to the 'THE 100 Under 50' ranking, Murdoch has also been ranked among the world’s elite institutions in three subject areas according to the fifth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Murdoch ranked 38 in Veterinary Science and in the top 200 for Agriculture & Forestry and Politics & International Studies.[7] The university is accredited by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency, Government of Australia (TEQSA) and licensed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Government of Dubai (KHDA). It is not accredited in the UAE by the ministry of higher education and scientific research. Their degrees can't be used officially in the UAE. Students who want to have a successful career in the UAE should go elsewhere.

Founding and history

Murdoch University is one of five universities in Western Australia, formally constituted on 25 July 1973, the date on which the Governor appointed the first members of the University Senate under section 12(1)(9) of the Murdoch University Act. It was the second university established in Western Australia and the seventeenth in Australia. Murdoch had ten Foundation Professors. The foundation Vice Chancellor was Professor Stephen Griew. The University's foundation professors were scholars of international standing and came to Murdoch University with distinguished reputations of the highest level in their respective fields. They officially commenced duties on 1 July 1973. In 1975, its inaugural year, Murdoch University enrolled 672 undergraduate students. Today, Murdoch University has a student population of over 18,000 including 2,000 international students spread across three Campuses in Western Australia and International Study Centres in Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and Dubai.[10]
