Mountain Monsters is a documentary television series on Destination America. It premiered on June 22, 2013, and began its fourth season on January 23, 2016. The series follows the "Appalachian Investigators of Mysterious Sightings (A.I.M.S) Team", a band of six native West Virginian hunters and trappers, as they research and find of evidence of unknown creatures in the Appalachian Mountains.

The series was renewed for a 5th season on September 14, 2016[2]

Premise

The A.I.M.S. team are a cryptozoology research team founded by West Virginians John "Trapper" Tice, Jeff Headlee, and Willy McQuillian. Their goal is to prove the existence of mysterious creatures such as Bigfoot, Werewolf, Hellhound, Lizard Man, and Mothman. The episodes usually begin with Trapper, Jeff, Huckleberry, and Buck discussing the particular creature they are hunting on the way to a location where the creature was spotted. They then meet with an eyewitness who has encountered the creature and gives the team an area to do a night investigation to find evidence of it being in the area.

The next day, Willy and Wild Bill begin work on traps to contain the creature while the rest of team looks for more evidence, before meeting another eyewitness who has either photographic, video, or audio evidence of the creature. They then test the trap and begin the final night hunt.

The creatures are never clearly shown on screen except for a digital rendering that appears before and after commercial breaks and brief glimpses. The team usually fails to capture the creature (with the exception of hogzilla and 3 of the devil dogs) as it evades or occasionally escapes from their trap, and they promise to go capture it next time. The recurring Rogue team also spies on and sabotages the A.I.M.S.'s investigations.
