The Mountain City Ranger District is a 450,000-acre (180,000 ha) ranger district within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It is located in northern Elko County, Nevada, United States, directly adjacent to the Jarbidge Ranger District. The town of Mountain City is contained within the district.[1]

The district encompasses the northern portion of the Independence Mountains, the majority of the Bull Run Mountains, the Bruneau Range, the Wild Horse Range and the Copper Mountains along with the headwaters of the North Fork of the Humboldt River. Elevations range from 4,600 feet (1,400 m) in the Bruneau River's valley to the Independence Mountain range high point, McAfee Peak, at 10,439 feet (3,182 m).
