Montana's BBQ & Bar (originally and in some cases, still branded as Montana's Cookhouse) is a Canadian restaurant that is famous for in-house smoked pork Ribs, Fresh AAA Steaks, and Juicy Burgers. It is headquartered in Vaughan, Ontario and a subsidiary of Cara Operations.

Operations

Montana's is known for their ribs, steaks and other lodge fare. The restaurant aims to be a family/casual concept, rather than fine dining. The theme of the restaurant is of a lodge/wilderness setting that tries to provide guests with an escape to simpler times. Montana's has been promoted in TV ads consisting of a mounted buck and moose hunting trophies conversing about the restaurant.

They have 94 restaurants located in all the Canadian provinces except Quebec and Prince Edward Island (where the chain withdrew), and none in the three territories.[1] As of February 2009, Montana's closed their United States locations in Michigan and New York.[2] It is reported that as of 2010, the busiest restaurant was located in South Common, Edmonton, Alberta, though Fort McMurray and a few other stores in Ontario had surpassed South Common, it has since reclaimed the title as busiest Montana's in 2015.

History

Montana's Cookhouse first opened its doors in 1995 as a subsidiary of Kelsey's. The original idea was thought up by Kelsey's owner Paul Jeffery and its president Nils Kravis. In 1999, Cara Operations obtained controlling interest in Kelsey's, including the Montana's chain. Cara completed its acquisition of the entire company 2002.[3] As of 2009, the president of Montana's is Andy O'Brien, who is also president of Kelsey's.[4]

As of 2015, Montana's has been slowly rebranding itself as Montana's BBQ & Bar complete with renovations and a slightly modified logo.

Montana's began a partnership with Scene in February 2015.
