Season chronology

The first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is an American television series created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy, which began transmissions on August 28, 1993, on the Fox Kids Network. The fictional series follows events in the lives of five, later six, teenagers with superpowers, who were chosen by the wise sage Zordon to become Power Rangers in order to stop the evil Rita Repulsa from taking over the planet Earth. The first season included 60 episodes and concluded its initial airing on May 23, 1994. The first season of MMPR uses footage and elements from the Super Sentai series Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger.

The season's stories focus on five teenagers: Jason Lee Scott (Austin St. John), Trini Kwan (Thuy Trang), Zachary "Zack" Taylor (Walter Emanuel Jones), Kimberly Ann Hart (Amy Jo Johnson), and William "Billy" Cranston (David Yost), who are given the ability to morph into "Power Rangers" by Zordon (David Fielding) in order to put a stop to Rita Repulsa's (Machiko Soga, voice of Barbara Goodson) evil schemes. Later during the season, Thomas "Tommy" Oliver (Jason David Frank) is introduced as a villain, but later becomes the sixth member of the team. Together they continue to foil Rita's plans along with her henchmen Goldar (Sakamoto), her second in command, Squatt and Baboo (Watanabe, Kusaka) the bumbling duo, and Finster (Iiboshi), the maker of most of their monsters. Meanwhile, Bulk and Skull (Paul Schrier, Jason Narvy) act as comic relief, at Angel Grove High, where the Rangers attend high school.

When two astronauts come across a strange dumpster on the moon, they open it, accidentally releasing Rita Repulsa and her minions: Goldar, Squatt, Baboo, and Finster. Rita then sets her eyes on the nearest planet: Earth. Meanwhile, at a local youth center in Angel Grove, California, viewers are introduced to "teenagers with attitude" Jason Lee Scott, Trini Kwan, Zack Taylor, Kimberly Hart, and Billy Cranston. Within the California desert, at the Command Center, Zordon and Alpha 5 are alerted of Rita's escape and teleport the five to the Command Center. After receiving Power Morphers, the teens morph into the Power Rangers and take on Goldar and the Putty Patrol. Also making their debuts are the bullying but laughable Bulk, his friend the likewise bullying but also laughable Skull, and Juice Bar proprietor Ernie.

Billy then unveils his latest invention: wrist communicators with which the rangers can contact Zordon and also teleport to the Command Center. On the moon, Rita decides to trap the rangers in a time warp the same way she did Zordon. Squatt and Baboo send a rigged toy rocket to Earth that activates the time warp. Rita has Finster create the zombie-like Bones monster to control the time warp. Zordon sends the teens to defeat a small band of Putties. During the fight, Billy gets chased to the top of a cliff, and Trini must face her fears to go up and save him. With the Putty Patrol retreating, the Rangers morph to confront Bones but are sucked into the time warp. Bones is destroyed but Rita sends down a giant, which then grabs hold of Jason.

He proves to be an overwhelming opponent, and Rita decides to use her wand to make him grow. Trini and Kimberly are able to defeat the putties, and the Rangers summon their Dinozords. Predicting defeat, Zordon recalls them back to the Command Center and awards the Rangers special weapons: Jason wields the Power Sword, Trini the Power Daggers, Billy the Power Lance, Kimberly the Power Bow, and Zack the Power Axe.
