Microglanis is a genus of fish in the family Pseudopimelodidae native to South America. This genus has the widest distribution within its family, with species ranging from the Guianas, Venezuela, western slope of the Andes in Ecuador and Peru to the Río de La Plata basin in Argentina.[1] They occur eastward to the Orinoco and Amazon basins.[2] It is also present in the eastern coastal rivers of Brazil.[2]

Taxonomy

This genus is considered monophyletic by a number of autapomorphies.[1] The genus can be divided into groups of species. For example, the M. parahybae group consist of M. carlae, M. garavelloi, M. leptostriatus, M. minutus, M. parahybae and M. pataxo.[3]
