Michael Sven Sukkar (born 11 September 1981), Australian politician, is a Liberal Party of Australia member of the Australian House of Representatives since September 2013, representing the Division of Deakin, Victoria.[1]
Sukkar was born in Ringwood, Victoria. He attended Aquinas College for his secondary schooling, and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at Deakin University, and later went on to complete a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne. Before he entered politics, Sukkar was a Senior Associate with one of Australia's largest law firms, Ashurst Australia. Sukkar won the seat of Deakin at the 2013 election, a marginal seat held by Labor considered crucial to Tony Abbott's election victory. He won the seat with a swing to the Liberal Party of 3.8 points.[1]
Sukkar's father was a Lebanese migrant, his mother's father was a Norwegian migrant.[2]
