Merrimack Canoe Company

The Merrimack Canoe Company is a maker of handcrafted canoes in Crossville, Tennessee. The family business was started in Merrimack, New Hampshire in 1954.

Merrimack is one of a dwindling numbers of handmade canoe manufacturers in the United States.[1] Styles of canoe produced by Merrimack have included Ospreys, Souhegans Prospectors, Baboosics, Travelers and Tennesseans.[1][2] The company is known for its "brightly hued boats" that have been acclaimed as classics. [3][4]

In 2011 Merrimack canoes were noted in the 2011 issue of Forbes (magazine)'s winter "Life" issue and Town & Country (magazine)'s December issue. The company was also identified in Garden & Gun magazine as a "runner up for the best built product in the South". The workmanship was described as "a balance between technology and tradition" and uses a reinforced carbon-fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass hull with wooden ribs made from Tennessee cherry trees. The seats are hand-laced and brass hardware is used, resulting in a "beautiful yet durable boat."[5]
