Manipuri cinema

Manipuri cinema refers to the film industry of the Manipur, the predominant language in the southeastern Himalayan state of Manipur, in northeastern India. Meitei cinema also known as Maniwood.

The first Manipuri film, Matamgi Manipur, was released in 1972.[1] Langlen Thadoi (1984) is the first Manipuri colour film and was directed by M.A. Singh. Maipak, Son of Manipur is the first documentary film of Manipur, and Lammei (2002) is the first digital film.[2] As the production of digital films started, the Manipuri film industry got expanded and 40-50 are made each year. Actor, film producer and director Mr. Manoj gave the name Maniwood to the Manipuri cinema.
