Mean Girls DS is a puzzle game developed and published by 505 Games. The game is based on the 2004 teen comedy film, Mean Girls. It was released for the Nintendo DS handheld game console in Europe on September 11, 2009 and its released was canceled in North America.[1] In 2008, it was announced that Paramount Pictures would begin turning their films into video games, including Mean Girls, Clueless, and Pretty in Pink.[2] The game has not resurfaced since its initial release, and as such is considered "lost" by the general public.

Gameplay

The game is a single-player puzzle game and allows the player to "combine similarly coloured jewels, shoes and lipstick. Chain combinations together and you can unleash 'rumours, pranks and put-downs'"[3] The gameplay of the video game has been called similar to the PC game based on the same film, Mean Girls: High School Showdown.

Reviews

The video game received mixed reviews from critics. The game has been called "a direct Puzzle Quest rip-off. While we love us some Puzzle Quest, we were sort of hoping for a Triple-A, monster hunting, go-kart racing, RPG-lite, Grand Theft Auto clone with a mean wardrobe."[3]

Production and advertisement

The video game was first announced to be made in 2008. The video game was in production for two years before its American release on April 20, 2010.[4] Actress Lindsay Lohan, the star of the film, was left off of the cover due to issues concerning money. It was reported that it was actually because of the actress's negative reputation.[3][4][5]
