Maye Musk

Maye Musk (née Haldeman, born 1948) is a Canadian model and dietician.[1] Also the mother of Elon Musk, Kimbal Musk, and Tosca Musk, she has been a model for 50 years appearing on the covers of magazines including Time. New York Post said she is "a star in her own right".[2] She also has a business as a dietician.[3]

Biography

Musk was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1948, a twin and one of five children.[1] Her family moved to Pretoria, South Africa, in 1950. Her parents, Joshua and Wyn Haldeman, were adventurous and flew the family around the world in a prop plane in 1952. For over 10 years the family would spend time roaming the Kalahari desert in search of its fabled Lost City. Their parents gave slide shows and talks about their journeys, "My parents were very famous, but they were never snobs," Musk said.[1]

As a young woman, Musk was finalist in the 1969 Miss South Africa beauty competition.[1] In 1970, she married Errol Musk a South African engineer she met in high school. She earned a master's degree in dietetics from the University of the Orange Free State in South Africa.[1] She later earned another degree in nutritional sciences from the University of Toronto. In 1979 she divorced Errol and her sons Elon and Kimbal decided to live with their father.[1] After graduating high school Elon decided to move to Canada, and Maye followed him there with the rest of her children a year later in 1990.[2]

Her modeling career continued in Canada.[2] She has appeared on boxes of Special K cereal;[1] in Revlon ads;[1] a Beyoncé video;[1] she appeared nude on the cover of Time magazine for a health issue;[2] also nude on the cover of New York magazine in 2011 with a fake pregnant belly;[2] she was on the cover of Elle Canada in 2012;[2] and starred in advertisement campaigns for Target and Virgin America.[2] In 2015, she was signed by IMG Models.[2]

In addition to modeling she has a business as a dietician. As a dietician she has lectured in every province of Canada and 39 American states, has a private practice and writes newsletters.[2]
