Matthew Rose, (born 24 September 1975 in Dartford, Kent ), is a former English professional footballer who played as a Defender for Arsenal, QPR and Yeovil Town [1]

Career

Arsenal

Rose started at Arsenal as a trainee as under youth team manager Pat Rice he captained his side to FA Youth Cup victory in 1994. On 5th March 1996 he made his first-team debut against Manchester City. Rose made five appearances (three as sub) for the Gunners before moving to QPR for £500,000 in May 1997. [2]

Queen's Park Rangers

Rose thus became a regular at QPR making over 250 appearances for them both at and away from Loftus Road in all competitions. He was part of the club's' memorable 2003-2004 season where QPR pipped Bristol City to place as runners up in the Football League Second Division and thus securing promotion to the First Division in a win away to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. [3]

One of the more important of the 8 goals that he scored for The Hoops was in September 2004 to seal a last minute 3-2 win at Brighton with a left-foot curling shot into the top corner.[4] In January 2007 he was released from his contract by John Gregory and thus left the club.

Yeovil Town

On 23 February, Rose signed for League One side Yeovil Town.[5] He scored his first and what turned out to be only goal for Yeovil against Bristol Rovers in October 2007.[6] At the end of the 2007-2008 season Rose rejected a new contract offer from Yeovil Town and thus retired from the game.[1]
