Matt has also been responsible for recruiting some of the games best young stars including Manny Machado, Michael Taylor, Yonder Alonso and Derek Norris.

Career

After playing baseball at Sacramento City College,[4] Matt transferred to Long Beach State to continue his playing career and to complete a degree in Business Finance. Having a passion for baseball and a knack for business, Matt was approached by various players seeking advice on their playing careers leading him to educate himself more on the agent business and eventually taking a position at what once was a dominant baseball agency, Beverly Hills Sports Council.[5] Matt began as an intern, moving up the ladder to recruiter and eventually becoming a certified player agent where he represented his own players.[6]

MVP Sports Group

In May 2010, Hannaford decided to leave BHSC and join Dan Lozano.[7] There he helped build this newly founded agency into one of the premier sports agencies in the business, where it remains today. At MVP his role continued to be one of an agent in addition to partner overseeing new business development.[8] Since its inception in 2010, MVP has been one of the leading baseball agencies in the business having negotiated contracts totaling over a billion dollars including Albert Pujols’ 10 year $240 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Joey Votto’s 10 year $225 million extension with the Cincinnati Reds.
