Martha Howe-Douglas is an English actress,[1] best known for three roles: playing the receptionist Donna Parmar in the BBC One daytime soap Doctors, appearing as various characters in the children's series Horrible Histories[2] and as Debbie Maddox The Chosen One in Sky TV's Yonderland.

Career

Howe-Douglas graduated from RADA in 2003[3] and performed in various theatre productions while there.[4] In the same year that she left RADA, she appeared in the UK television Christmas Special of The Office, replacing Dawn as the receptionist at Wernham-Hogg.

From 24 April 2006 until 11 May 2007, Howe-Douglas played Brummie receptionist Donna Parmar in the BBC daytime soap opera Doctors.

In 2009, she landed one of the main multi-role parts on a new children's TV history sketch show programme, CBBC's Horrible Histories,[5] where over five years / series, she played numerous characters including the queens Cleopatra, Elizabeth I, Mary, Queen of Scots and Victoria — see Horrible Histories for list of characters. In 2011, she appeared in The Proms, in a special live "Horrible Histories Big Prom Party" performance.

In 2013 she appeared as 33-year-old Debbie Maddox in Sky1's series Yonderland reprising the role for a second series in 2015.

Other acting roles have included appearing in The Armstrong & Miller Show on BBC One and playing Flora Dies-Early in the hit radio comedy show Bleak Expectations as well as Lady Anne Woodstock in the radio show The Castle.

Awards and nominations

In the 2007 British Soap Awards, Howe-Douglas was nominated twice for her role in Doctors, for '"Best Newcomer", where she came third out of four in the poll, and "Best Comedy Performance", where she came second. In the 2011 Children's BAFTAs, she was nominated for "Best Performer" for her performance in Horrible Histories.
