After spending two seasons with the University of Louisville, Hairston signed a Generation Adidas contract and was selected 12th overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by Colorado.

Hairston made his professional debut on March 29, 2014 against Sporting Kansas City. He scored his first professional goal on August 20, 2014 against LA Galaxy.

On April 2, 2015, Hairston was loaned to USL side Charlotte Independence.[1]

On May 12, 2015, Hairston earned USL Player of the Week after scoring a goal and picking up an assist in a 3-0 win over the Richmond Kickers.[2]
