Margarita Rosa de Francisco Baquero also known as Margarita Rosa and La Mencha (born August 8, 1965 in Cali, Colombia) is a Colombian telenovela, movie actress, singer and TV presenter.

Personal life

Margarita is the granddaughter of Margarita Cucalón. She is the daughter of Gerardo de Francisco and Mercedes Baquero. She is the second of three siblings: sister Adriana and brother, comedian Martín de Francisco.

From August 19881990 she was married to actor/singer Carlos Vives, who she had met on the set of the telenovela Gallito Ramirez. Since 14 June 2003 she has been married to Daniel Castello.

In 1990 De Francisco had surgery after suffering from a severe scoliosis on her back. When fully recovered she wrote a book on physical exercises titled Margarita Rosa físicamente, ejercicios y nutrición.

Career

De Francisco started as a model doing commercials for small businesses until she got selected to participate in Miss Colombia and pinned a second place that allowed her to participate in Miss World 1985. After the beauty pageant she was offered numerous modeling gigs with major Colombia companies like Postobón, Revlon, Café Aguila Roja and Gran Ahorrar.

Her acting career started in 1981 when she was cast for the film Tacones.

She would later gain notoriety in Colombian television with her roles in telenovelas Gallito Ramirez (1986), Los Pecados de Inés de Hinojosa (1988) and Calamar (1989). Her starring role as "Gaviota" in Café, con Aroma de Mujer (1994) received widespread acclaim both in her country as well as abroad.

In addition to the soundtrack albums she has collaborated with, de Francisco recorded in 2011 the song "Cuidao' que te quemas", which served as the opening theme of Colombian TV series Correo de Inocentes. In 2007 she also recorded "Mientras Haya Vida" as the opening theme of the Mexican telenovela of the same name.
