In the Senate he was succeeded by Alexander Kops. Since 1 July 2014 he has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP).[2]

De Graaff studied theology at the Radboud University Nijmegen between 1981 and 1988. Since 1989 he worked as a consultant for IT & Operations.[3]

De Graaff was named as party list leader for the 2014 European Parliament elections.
