Manningham United Blues Football Club is an Australian soccer club from Templestowe, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. The club was formed in 1965 by local Italian Australians and was formerly known as Fawkner Blues. In 2010, Fawkner SC split from the club. Manningham United plays majority of their home games at Timberidge Reserve however some games are played at Wilsons Road Reserve particularly the Women's matches.

History

After humble beginnings in 1999 with only three junior teams, the club originally known as Manningham Juniors Soccer Club's inaugural committee led by Paul Martinello and Tari Mallia would never have imagined the growth of the club. On Thursday 27 November 2014 it became official that Manningham united a then Victorian State League Division 4 team would merge with Fawkner Blues a Victorian State League Division 1 and Manningham United Blues Football Club was born. In 2014 they fielded 30 junior teams and have grown to be the biggest community club in Manningham.

Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues

in 2004 Fawkner Blues merged with Whittlesea Stallions to form Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues. Their home games were played at Whittlesea's home stadium Epping Stadium the merge only lasted until 2006. They did play in the 2005 and 2006 Victorian Premier League seasons. In 2005 they finished 4th[1] but only 6 points from first. In 2006 the final year before Fawkner-Whittlesead dissolved they finished 10th[2] At the end of 2006, Fawkner and Whittlesea dissolved the merger, with Fawkner opting to go back to being a stand-alone club, and Whittlesea forming a partnership with Bulleen to form the Whittlesea Zebras who have been known as Moreland Zebras FC since 2011.

Manningham United Blues

On Thursday 27 November 2014 it became official that Manningham (founded 1999) united a then Victorian State League Division 4 team would merge with Fawkner Blues (founded 1965) a Victorian State League Division 1 and Manningham United Blues Football Club was born. They moved from CB Smith Reserve which Fawkner SC now plays at to play at Mannigham's ground Timberidge or alternatively Wilson Road Reserve. In the inaugural season Manningham finished a disappointing 10th. However the future lookes bright as in 2016 they finished 5th.

2013 Season

Manningham were playing in the Victorian State League Division 5 and had finished 5th[3] while their reserves would finish in a similar position in 6th[4] but still just 4 points from 4th. Fawkner on the other hand playing in Victorian State League Division 1 would finish dead last,[5] below Eastern Lions SC by 6 points. Fawkners U21's in 2013, the equivalent of the reserves also finished last[6] but only 1 point behind Heidelberg United FC.

2014 Season

The season before the merge Manningham had just escaped the bottom of the ladder finishing above Brandon Park SC who only managed 1 win in the entire season. Manningham ended the season on 19 points[7] with 6 wins and 1 draw Croydon City Arrows would be winners that season. The reserves would finish 3rd[8] but still 17 points behind 2nd place Melbourne University SC and 20 points behind champions Ringwood City. In the 2014 season Fawkner finished 3rd[9] behind Preston Lions FC and Moreland City FC. Their reserves however finished second last[10] although only 3 points separated them and 9th.

2015 Season

First season of the merge and Manningham United Blues would finish 10th[11] on 21 points however just above them were Casey Comets and Morwell Pegasus SC on 24 and 26 points. Their reserves however managed to pull of a much better performance in the 2016 season with 42 points and a 4th-place finish.[12]

2016 Season

Manningham's seniors had a relatively slow start to the season with only two wins in the first five matches. however form hit when they won six matches in a row from round 7–12 and were only stopped by eventual winners Mornington SC. It looked at that point even though there was a loss to Mornington there was still a good chance of a high place finish or even the title. However, with one win in the last five matches including a 3–3 draw to bottom side Frankston Pines FC a fifth-place finish[13] would ultimately be disappointing for Manningham. The reserves would feel unlucky at the start of the season losing two of their first three games 1–0. It didn't come until their fourth game against South Springvale SC where they smashed them 7–1 where they got their first win. The reserves would finish 10th[14] in the end but would be dissapoined not only because of the low position on the ladder but because of the good football that they played and surely would have felt they deserved to be higher up. Manningham lost by a one-goal margin six times during the season including a 5–4 loss to Langwarrin SC and drew a further 5 times throughout the season.

Club Name and Logo

Logo

Fawkner's original logo has not been touched except for their brief merge with Whittlesea Stallions in 2004 which would eventually end in 2006. After Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues dissolved Fawkner changed back to their original logo. When they would eventually merge with Manningham it would stay relatively the same, however that cannot be said for Manningham.

Manningham started off in 1999 with a soccer ball as the foundation of their logo with blue pentagons and blue and white stripes on it. In 2011 a name change and a new logo as well the ball still featured heavily but

instead of blue and white it would be blue and black to match their new colours. This new logo would only last three years because in 2014 Manningham and Fawkner would merge and the logo stayed relatively the same

and it so happened that a soccer ball once again featured heavily on the logo.

Name

The club that is now Manningham United Blues originally was founded in 1965 under the name Fawkner however in 1994 they changed their club name to Fawkner Blues, with a brief change to Fawkner-Whittlesea Blues after a merge with Whittlesea in 2004 which ended in 2006.

merge with Manningham United in 2014 as Manningham adopted the blues to become Manningham United Blues. Manningham have also had several name changes. Beginning as Manningham Junior Soccer Club in 1999

the club swapped out the soccer for a more traditional football. The name and logo lasted only three years after a merge with Fawkner in 2014 and they adopted part of their name and majority of their badge.

FFA Cup Record

Each team is entered at a different stage of the competition depending on the division that they play in, in 2014 before Manningham's official merge with Fawkner SC they were still playing in Victorian State League Division 4 and so they were drawn in the 1st round. Since the merge they are now drawn in the 3rd round along with the other Victorian State League Division 1.
