Maluka

Maluka was a small state southeast of Bandjermassin in southeast Borneo from 1812-1816.[1] It was established by Alexander Hare. After the successful British invasion of Java, Stamford Raffles sent Hare to the region. He was then granted the land by the sultan which he ran as a private fiefdom. Thus he can be called the first White Rajah of Borneo, 30 years before the White Rajahs of Sarawak. His importation of convicts as slave labour, especially female, became infamous and was dubbed the Bandjemassing Enormity.
