Malkajgiri is a suburb in the Medchal district of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the mandal headquarters of Malkajgiri mandal in Malkajgiri revenue division.[1][2]

Demographics

As of the 2011 India census,.[3] Malkajgiri had a population of 413,571. The population is 51% male and 49% female. Malkajgiri has an average literacy ratio of 87% with 321,525 total people literated. In terms of literacy, Malkajgiri ranks at 1st in K.V.Rangareddy district , higher than the national average of 59.5%; male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 65%. In Malkajgiri, 7% of the population is under 6 years of age. As of the latest election in 2014, its MP is Malla Reddy of the TRS Party. Malkajgiri, one of the largest constituencies in the country with about 30 lakh voters, is also unique because people from Seemandhra are considered crucial for victory in this constituency, though it is situated geographically in Hyderabad and its fringes.

Commercial area

One of the oldest factories in the area is Shaw Wallace Distilleries Limited, which in 2007 merged with United Spirits, a part of the UB group. The area is home to many businesses, including a branch of the CMR Shopping Mall, Anutex, restaurants, and theatres like Ramchandra Mall – Cinepolis, Raghavendra and Sai Ram theatres. Malkajgiri has all the ATM's of prominent Banks such as HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Canara Bank, Bank Of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Bank and Axis Bank to name a few.

Malkajgiri Assembly Constituency

The Malkajgiri Assembly Constituency is a new constituency formed after delimitation of constituencies. The General elections held in 2009 were the first elections to be held in this constituency. Akula Rajender Mudiraj was elected as MLA in 2009. In 2014 general assembly elections, C. KANAKA REDDY(TRS) won by 2768 votes against RAM CHANDER RAO.N(BJP).

Malkajgiri also has quite a few wonderful temples that one can visit, namely, 3 oldest temples Vishnu , shivalam, Ganesh in balasaraswathi Nagar old malkajgiri.Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple near malkajgiri , Durga matha temple near prashanth nagar community hall, Shirdi Sai Baba temple near railway station,Lord venkateswara temple along with goddesses Sridevi & Bhoodevi at Sattireddy colony. Vijaya Vinayaka temple in Vani Nagar, the Lord Rama temple in Prem Vijay Nagar Colony, the Raghavendra Swamy mutt in Venkateshwara Nagar, Hanuman and santhoshimata temple at Old Malkajgiri, Ashtabhuja Devi temple in Anand bagh, Brahmaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple in Vishnupuri, Mallanna temple in Mallikarjuna Nagar and the Ganapathi and Panchamukha Anjaneya temples in Vasanthapuri Colony.

Malkajgiri also witnesses a grand scale celebration of festivals like Mahankali Jatara (Bonalu), Ganesha Chaturthi and Dussehra wherein the whole area is decorated with colourful pandals during the festival days.Special cultural programs are conducted at vasanthapuri colony by Siddi Vinayaka Friends Association and movies screened during Ganesh Chaturthi near the famous Sangam in Mirjalguda.

There is also a Ashoorkhana in Hydernagar which is mostly visited by Shia Muslims on 19th of Muharram every year. People from old city and outskirts of Hyderabad also visit there. The Ashoorkhana is in Hydernagar beside Patel Nagar at Malkajgiri.

Dr. Martin Lutheran Church / Wallbuilders for youth near Neredmet X roads and Divine Grace Lutheran Church near ECIL X roads. At Christmas time, carols singing and skits are played and be celebrated with great joy.

The youth of Malkajgiri are heavily inclined to sports. Malkajgiri has produced some of the finest cricketers in town who hone their skills by training hard in the nearby British Grounds in Lallaguda.

Transport

Malkajgiri is well-connected with other parts of the city by road as well as rail.The Malkajgiri Railway Station located at backside of St. Martin High School will soon be converted into a major junction. Until now the station has 4 tracks and 3 Platforms in which 2nd&3rd Platforms are only Electrified. There is a Railway Reservation Complex too.[4] thereby connecting it to most of places by rail route.

The principal intra-city bus routes through this area are 16x/14x (Secunderabad – Prasanth-nagar),16A (Secunderabad – ECIL X Roads), 16C (Secunderabad – ECIL X Roads), 16A/K (Secunderabad – ECIL X Roads), 16H (Secunderabad – ECIL X Roads), 16H/10H (ECIL X Roads to Kondapur),38X/EX(Secunderabad to Secunderabad via AOC and Tukaram Gate) connects the other side of the railway station.

Malkajgiri is less than 15 to 20 mins drive from Secunderabad Railway Station. It is also just 3 km away from Mettuguda junction where the road leading to Uppal and the International Airport is being expanded into eight lanes.

Real Estate

Real estate in Malkajgiri have seen high demand but limited supply. Average price per sq. feet has grown by 1.39% in last 1year. Rental yield [5] is around 4.16%. Legend Estates pvt. Ltd, Aashray developers and Reshan realty are among the top developers in this area.[6]
