Maddikera is a mandal and village in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Geography

Maddikera is located at the border of Kurnool district 15°15′00″N 77°25′00″E / 15.2500°N 77.4167°E / 15.2500; 77.4167.[1] It has an average elevation of 456 meters (1499 feet). This is recognized as the biggest village in India.

Maddikera has a population of over 18000 people and is still considered to be a village. There is a famous temple of "Maddikera Maddamma" as the local goddess. The statue of the Maddamma is made of wood, and there is annual carnival that is held in this village. The carnival is an elobarate celebration which goes for about 7 days. People from surrounding villages and cities throng to see the first day procession of Goddess Maddamma on an epic old chariote along the streets of the village. In the olden days pregnant women were not allowed to visit the temple of Maddamma as the statue looks very fearful. It is also said that the statue has been refurbished as people were fearing a lot to look at the goddess. The village itself is a quite calm and nice place with warm hearted people. The most beautiful place is the pond called Maddamma Cheruvu which is just next to the temple. Many students from this village have studied in different places in India. Almost 5000 people travel to GUNTAKAL from MADDIKERA everyday for work or studies. In this nearly 400 are students. In the last few years, an intermediate college has been started and now the government is planning to establish a DEGREE college. This village has rapidly developed in the last few years and one BABA temple is famous in SAI baba nagar.we have one famous darga of "Imamsa vali" and they celebrate moharam very grand. One of the famous school named as K.V.R ZPH school is running since 1959. This school developed by different doners. There is a famous saying in this village in Telugu: "Maddikera antha Palletooru ledu Madras antha Pattanamu ledu". It means that Maddikera is the Biggest village and Madras is the Biggest City.
