MV European Highlander is a ferry operated by P&O Irish Sea on their Cairnryan to Larne service. She is the current flagship of the P&O Irish Sea fleet . European Highlander is an enlarged version of European Causeway, the Highlander being 6 metres longer. Other differences include minor revisions to the passenger deck layout, additional passenger lifts and the use of larger lifeboats rather than Marine evacuation systems. On 7 June 2012, it carried the Olympic Flame across the Irish Sea from Northern Ireland to Scotland.

Description

The MV European Highlander is a two propeller, Roll on- Roll off, two compartment passenger and car ferry. She is a sister ship to the European Causeway and is the most powerful ferry on the Irish sea. 2 controllable pitch propellers can sail the ship at 23 knots.[1]

News

On the 5th July 2016 the European Highlander completed a refit that added a new forward lounge, new shops and kid's areas and over fifty more seats for passengers which includes opening up the top deck on sunny days. In Autumn 2016 the ship will have additional seating areas in the reception room, and brand new 'food courts' will be added by next summer. P&O ferries said: "We trust that the experience of travelling with P&O will continue to be the best we can provide."[2]
