Lutjanus malabaricus, commonly known as Malabar blood snapper or saddletail snapper, is a marine fish native to the western Pacific, where it is found east to Fiji and Japan, and Indian Ocean, where it occurs west to the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea.[1] It extends south in Australian waters to Shark Bay in Western Australia and Sydney in New South Wales.[2]
It can be distinguished from the scarlet snapper (Lutjanus erythropterus) by its larger head and mouth.[3]
