Lunac (alloy and trans-ceramic coatings) refers to five kinds of coating developed by the WMV laboratories. Lunac 1 is a metallic glass coating with particularly good non-stick properties, used mainly for coating the (insides) of dies used in extrusion and plast molding; Lunac 2 + is a very hard (up to Hv=2100) trans-ceramic coating, resistant to abrasive wear as well as corrosion, mainly used for coating sliding (off shore) machine parts such as hydraulic cylinders and axles. The corrosion protective capability complies with the electrochemical ECP accelerated corrosion testing standard.

The coatings are fairly thick, from 45 to 250 micrometers and capable to establish a substrate bond similar to welding. The composition is not described on WMV's website, and the only provider of coating services is WMV.

Research beginning in the late 1990s revealed other new features such as a remarkable friction reduction in some non lubricated bearing-axle systems. Coefficient of friction down to 0.07 can be obtained in combination with some plastics (UHMWPE). Closer tribological research revealed a 70 micrometer Lunac 2+ coating can take up shear loads up to 400 MPa.
