"Lovergirl" is the first single from Teena Marie's 1984 album, Starchild. The song became Marie's biggest hit, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. She wrote and produced the song.

Cover versions

In 2010, Sy Smith performed the song as tribute to the late singer during her Sy Smith & Mark de Clive-Lowe Tour. She later recorded her own interpretation of the song titled "Teena (Lovergirl Syberized)", which appears on her fourth album "Fast and Curious". On August 11 2016, the drag performer and singer Rhea Litré released a cover of the song as well.
