Lord of Francis

The first Baron of Francis was the veteran soldier and Clan Buchanan member Kenneth Gibson who was handed over the Francis Fort and its surrounding territories close to Loch Linnhe in 1603 by the local authorities. The title Baron of Francis was used for the Lairds (Lords) owning the land surrounding the Francis Fort before it was demolished in 1909.

Today the land is mostly woodlands and is still in the hands Laird Kenneth Gibson's late descendants. The current owner is Jeffrey Gibson (1943-) who got the territory handed over after the death of his grandfather Laird Henry Gibson (1886–1981).

98.31% of the Francis land was forced on sale by the local government in 2006 but the remaining 1.69% still belongs to the middle class Gibson family who have given up the Laird title as Baron of Francis.
