Falling Creek Bridge Chesterfield County, Virginia United States 1 September 1936 Wood and steel. Two trucks were crossing the bridge when one struck a tie rod causing the bridge to collapse. One truck fell to the creek bed 15 feet below, and the other made it off the bridge and onto the road. 4 killed, 5 injured There is no link to this story. The collapse had a significant economic impact on the region since the Causeway is the only road connecting South Padre Island to Port Isabel.
