Galaxy Alliance

Lion Voltron Force (Golion Team)

(Original Japanese names in parentheses)

In the reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Keith is a teenager similar in appearance to his GoLion counterpart. He pilots the Red Lion, and is not the leader of the Voltron Force. Keith is a loner and rebel by nature, which resulted in his expulsion from the Galaxy Garrison. Keith is hotheaded and temperamental, much like his Lion, which makes it hard for many to work with him. A skilled martial artist, Keith is extremely capable on the battlefield. His Bayard takes the form of a double-edged sword that can slice through solid steel with ease. He is dedicated to maintaining his skills and spends his free time on the ship honing his combat skills.
In the reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Lance is depicted as an olive-skinned teenager who pilots the Blue Lion. He is a self-described ladies' man and the class clown of the team. Lance's personality is outwardly very egotistical, cocky, confrontational, flirtatious, and sometimes downright arrogant and he's usually the first to make light of a delicate situation. However, he can actually be quite sensitive, reflective, and distant at times when his teammates aren't around or when his guard is lowered. He deeply misses Earth and wants to complete the mission of destroying Zarkon so that he can return to his family. Lance is a natural sharpshooter and skilled marksman with his Bayard taking the form of a rifle.
In the reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Pidge is depicted as a pale skinned child prodigy, the youngest team member, and pilots the Green Lion. A major change for the character is that Pidge is a girl named Katie Holt who searching for her missing father and brother, refusing to believe the official report of their deaths by pilot error. After being discovered hacking into Galaxy Garrison computers Katie was escorted off the property and forbidden from ever returning. To further the investigation Katie went undercover as a Galaxy Garrison cadet by the name of Pidge Gunderson. Katie cut her hair and donned glasses to disguise herself as a boy. When Pidge reveals her true identity as female, every member of Team Voltron, aside from Lance, admits to having already known. Pidge is a tech genius and is more than capable of learning how to operate advanced alien technology on the fly, showcasing her vast intelligence. She is also agile, and nimble, and uses a Bayard that takes the form of a small, arrow-shaped blade that possesses the ability to deliver a painful electrical shock, has a grapple function that can be used for both transport and incapacitating enemies, and has an edge that can cut through extremely thick metal plating with little to no trouble.
In the reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender, Hunk is depicted as a dark skinned teenager and pilots the Yellow Lion. This version of Hunk initially suffers from motion sickness. He retains his role as the strong-man of the group and also serves as the team's mechanic and cook. Easily the friendliest and kindest of the team, Hunk is often the voice of restraint and caution of the five Paladins and despite his immense strength has a hard time engaging in fights due to his gentle nature. However, when his anger is triggered, it is wouldn't be wise to stand against him. Hunk is also able to quickly assess the capabilities of the machines he comes across. Hunk is a quick study, able to learn how to wield his Bayard's cannon form with brutal efficiency, making him a skilled marksman.
In Voltron: Legendary Defender Allura appears as a young woman with a darker skin tone, white hair, and pointed ears. She is the last Princess of Altea and only known surviving female Altean. When Altea was attacked by Zarkon's Galra Empire 10,000 years ago, Allura's father, King Alfor, chose to hide the Voltron Lions and Allura rather than have Voltron formed to battle their enemy as she suggested. Sadly, Altea was ultimately lost as a result, with only the six residents of the Castle of Lions (Altea, Coran, and four Space Mice) being known to survive the tragedy. She spent the next ten millennia in stasis, until awakened by the future Paladins of Voltron: Shiro, Keith, Lance, Pidge, and Hunk. Her attire here varies between a blue and white dress and a black and white jumpsuit with pink highlights (likely a reference to her original series attire). She has various abilities, including the ability to change her size, increased strength, and manipulate mystical energy.
In the reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender, the character is called "Shiro", though a computer file glimpsed in one episode confirms that his full name is Takashi Shirogane, the character's original Japanese name. He is depicted as a skilled pilot of legendary reputation. He is the leader of the five Paladins of Voltron and pilots the Black Lion. In this iteration he is shown to be a bit more worn than his teammates due to his abduction by the Galra Empire, who kept him as a captive for a year before he managed to escape. The full extent of his trauma is unknown, as his memories are suppressed, and after his escape he had difficulty willfully recalling his memories of his captivity. His right arm was replaced with a weaponized Galra tech prosthetic capable of energy emission powerful enough to cut through most metals and weld doors shut. He also gained a lateral scar across the bridge of his nose and part of his black hair turned white from the extreme stress. Shiro is a born leader, naturally adept at calmly commanding his team. Shiro does not have a Bayard as it was thought to be lost with the previous Black Paladin, but it is revealed in the Season 1 finale that Zarkon is in possession of it.

Cadets

The three cadets are recruited by the Voltron Force (which is non-canon) to help battle evil when Lotor returns. The three cadets have a hyperactive nature at first, causing them to be burdens to the original pilots, but they gradually mature during their training. They needed to learn navigation, hand-to-hand combat, tactical combat, strategies, science, and trusting each other. The three cadets tended to work by themselves and think individually, but they begin to learn that piloting the Lions is better when they work and think as a team. It was later revealed that the three cadets were recruited to eventually replace some of the original pilots.

Vehicle Voltron Force (Rugger Team)

Air Team (Aki Team)

Air Team uniforms are dark blue, yellow, and white.

Legendary Defender features the character of Matt Holt who, like Chip, is known to be the brother of his series' incarnation of Pidge; it is unknown whether any other similarities exist between the characters.

Sea Team (Keats Team)

Sea Team uniforms are navy blue and aqua.

Land Team (Walter Team)

Land Team uniforms are red and white.

Mecha

Lion Voltron (Golion)

A sentient robot created by King Alfor on Arus to fight against the armies of Planet Doom. Among Voltron's weapons are the Spinning Laser Blade, Lion Head Attack, Lion Torches, Sting Ray Missiles, Ion Darts, Eye Beams, Electro-Force Cross, Lion Lariat, Lion Saber, Argon Force Field, and the Blazing Sword, its ultimate weapon. Voltron was later separated into the five Lions by Haggar. In the first season finale of The Third Dimension, Voltron was destroyed, but recreated in the beginning of the second season, and would go on to be reconfigured into Stealth Voltron whenever he passed into another dimension.

In Voltron Force, due to Vince's mysterious powers, Voltron can reconfigure himself with a different lion to form the main body while the Black Lion becomes a limb. Additionally, Voltron can use Daniel's VoltCom powers to boost the speed of the lions, his formation sequence and himself. With Larmina's VoltCom powers, Voltron gains improved hand-to-hand combat skills and a Blazing Katana which he wields alongside his Blazing Sword. Also revealed in Voltron Force is that many planets have had connections to Voltron's creation - Arus, Earth, Balto, and Ariel.

In Legendary Defender, Voltron was the ultimate weapon in the universe created by the inhabitants of Altea, but was scattered across the universe on Alfor's order to keep it out of the hands of the Galra Empire. The Black Lion remained inside the Castle of Lions, inaccessible unless the other four were recovered, while the other four were hidden on various planets, with the Blue Lion ending up on Earth. The Red Lion was later found and captured by the Galrans, but rescued by Keith after he bonded with it. These versions of the Voltron Lions will only bond with particular pilots, with the Red Lion notably refusing to bond with Keith until he had proven himself. In this version it was Allura herself who created Voltron,[2] and her life force is tied to the giant robot and its Lion components. Each Lion has the ability to fire laser blasts, and each provides a unique weapon to the united Voltron form that is unlocked by each Paladin's use of their Bayard.

Vehicle Voltron (Dairugger)

In the Devil's Due comic series, Vehicle Voltron was created by the Galaxy Garrison after abducting Voltron from Arus and reverse-engineering it under orders from a Drule spy. The machine was named "V-15" within the comics, and was first deployed after Voltron to recapture him until they received new orders to support him. Among its weapons are the Solar Combat Spears, Ray Beam Whip, Electro-thermal Blast, Eye Beams, Wing Beam, Solar Wind Blast, and the Spinning Laser Blades which are used as precursor to the Blazing Sword. Unlike the animated series, which depicted the two Voltron Forces as being family members, as with Chip and Pidge, or longstanding friends, the Devil's Due comic showed Keith and Jeff as having an antagonistic relationship with one another due to Lion Voltron's accidental "sneak attack" on Vehicle Voltron during the robots' first battle together.

Allies

Voltron Lion Force

In Legendary Defender Coran is Princess Allura's advisor and the last known surviving male Altean in the universe following the destruction of their home solar system. Coran is noted for being somewhat foppish, goofy, and very much a traditionalist. He is often forgetful that the current Paladins have different customs, diets, and behaviors, but is at his core a dedicated and kind man. Though he comes off as kind of a ditz at times, Coran is a man of great experience. Coran is very concerned for the well being of the Paladins and Allura, as he is often trying his hardest to ensure that they are adequately fed, rested, and at peace.
In Legendary Defender he scattered the Voltron Lions across the known universe before uploading his consciousness into a computer in the Castle of Lions, which allows him to continue advising his daughter. This AI was later destroyed after it was corrupted by energy from a Galra energy crystal. Zarkon later claimed that Alfor scattered Voltron because he knew it would allow Zarkon to become even more powerful.

S.S. Explorer crew

Galaxy Garrison

The government within the Voltron series. While some of its members help the Voltron teams, others have their own agenda.

Drule Empire (Galveston)

The Drule Empire are the main enemies of the Voltron Lion and Vehicle Teams, ruled by Emperor Zeppo. They are at war with the Galaxy Alliance. Most of them are humanoids with light purple skin and red eyes. Among many planets in the empire are Drule, Doom, etc.

Planet Doom/Galra Empire

The villains of the Lion Voltron series, ruled by King Zarkon in the Denubian galaxy. In the Devil's Due comic series, Planet Doom is the center of the Drule Empire as the "Kingdom of Night". In Legendary Defender, the Galra Empire is a 10,000 year old empire that has been invading planets and stealing quintessence, an extremely powerful form of energy that they use to power their war machine.

In the 2016 reboot series Voltron: Legendary Defender he has been ruling the Galra Empire for ten thousand years. Zarkon hungered for power and began to expand his rule. King Alfor of Altea hid the Lions of Voltron from him, and thus Zarkon began his campaign of terror unopposed. It is implied during his battle with the Paladins that he was the original Paladin of the Black Lion, and he even possesses the lost Black Bayard, the weapon of the Black Paladin. He can transform the Bayard into a number of weapons, though it is unknown if this is due to his own abilities or the design of the Bayard. Given his extremely long life, he has had ample time to gain total control of the weapon and understand all there is to know about wielding it. Zarkon's knowledge and past history as a Black Paladin is repeatedly hinted at, as he knows the power of Voltron better than anyone. During his battle with Shiro he even expresses a small degree of nostalgia upon seeing the Black Lion. It is unknown explicitly how Zarkon has managed to live for over ten millennia, but it appears to have something to do with the harvesting of the energy from planets known as Quintessence, which is known to have regenerative properties, such as when it healed Keith's badly burned hand when a container of it was ruptured and splashed onto his hand. It has empowered Zarkon to the point where he can breathe in vacuum and is capable of taking on a Voltron Lion in single combat. Zarkon is a firm believer in a survival of the fittest philosophy, espousing that if half a platoon or fleet were slaughtered that the survivors would have been stronger for it. He truly believes that weakness is an infection and must be eradicated and that only the strongest have a right to live and that the weak exist only for the strong to become stronger by stepping along them like a brick road built of their broken bodies.
In Legendary Defender Haggar is featured as one of Zarkon's closest advisors and the leader of the Druids, a dark magical order within the Galra Empire known for their abilities to create Robeasts and interrogate prisoners. She was responsible for Shiro's cybernetic arm, having experimented on him during his time as a prisoner with the Galra.
In Voltron: Legendary Defender he is known as Commander Sendak and has a cybernetic left arm and right eye. He is an extremely sadistic and powerful fighter who is not to be underestimated. His fighting style relies primarily on the use of his cybernetic left arm and its energy tether and piercing claws. His loyalty to Zarkon and adherence to the military hierarchy is without question and only obeys the commands given to him. He is also skilled in psychological warfare and military strategy. He is dispatched to Althea to capture Allura and the Voltron Lions. His ship is destroyed in the initial encounter, but he later returns in an attempt to redeem himself. He is defeated again and imprisoned in cryogenic suspension. Team Voltron attempts to extract his memories into the Castle of Lion's computer in an attempt to gain intelligence on the Galra Empire, but only get a fraction of his knowledge before a corruption of the Castle's AI. This corruption causes Shiro to be taunted by Sendak's voice to the point of ejecting Sendack, cryo-pod and all, into space, presumably to his death. Sendak's design has some minor design aspects that are meant to be callbacks to Commander Yurak. Most notably are the big feline ears, along with a single bright glowing yellow eye, and the bright red cybernetic eye.

Drule Supreme Council

Commanders

Fleet Commanders

Drule U.R.F.

The Drule Underground Rebel Force was founded by Bakki to liberate their home world's citizens from tyranny.

Others

Robeasts (Deathblack/Mechblack Beastmen-Combat/Battle Machines)

Monsters used by members of the Drule Empire often sent to fight the two Voltrons of the Galaxy Alliance.

Planet Doom Robeasts (Wave 1)

The Robeasts from planet Doom send to battle to Lion Force, reared in gladiatorial combat, are humanoid monsters created through a combination of superscience and Haggar's magic, usually from prisoners of war though some of them are simply giant robots piloted by Doom soldiers.

Planet Drule Robeasts (Wave 2)

In Voltron Force, a new series of Robeasts are produced by infusing Apex predators from various planets with Haggarium. The resulting creatures are biomechanical beasts with the Haggarium enabling them to normally weaken Voltron with special abilities augmenting their natural talents.

Drule Robeasts

The Drule Robeasts that battle the Explorer and the Vehicle Force are uniformly technology based and mostly piloted by Drule soldiers.

Galra Robeasts

In Legendary Defender the Galra Empire employs Robeasts created by Haggar and her Druids.

Dracotron

Exclusive to Voltron: The Third Dimension, evil counterparts to the lions based on dragons, the Dragons lived in an alternate dimension, but were so ferocious and destructive that they left it a desolate wasteland, forcing them to travel to other dimensions to steal food as well as structures within which to protect their eggs from their atmosphere. The most powerful Dragon is Black Draco, the black dragon. Five Dragons can merge to form Dracotron, an evil incarnation of Voltron with a superblast attack so strong, as indirectly stated in Third Dimension, that two blasts can destroy Voltron. In Third Dimension, the Dragons and Dracotron make multiple appearances and are destroyed each time, indicating that possibly any five Dragons can merge into a Dracotron.
