Jake, Audrey, and Kieran go to Brooke's after party unaware of the killers gran finale. Meanwhile Noah and Emma race against time to try and save their friends. At the party the killer injures Audrey and locks Brooke in a freezer. Emma is lured to the dock by the killer, who is holding her mom hostage. The killer is revealed to be Piper Shaw, Brandon Jame's daughter. After a struggle Piper is shot dead by both Audrey and Emma. Noah takes over Piper's podcast and talk about the possibility of Piper having an accomplice. Audrey is then shown burning letters she had exchanged with Piper months prior to the murders.

As all returns to normal, Audrey is pranked by Haley Meyers and another stranger attempting to terrorize her and ends up stabbing the other stranger because he was dressed as the previous killer and wearing a Brandon James mask, who survives since his camera strap blocked it. Emma returns home after three months away at a treatment facility for her PTSD. Brooke leaves Jake after he angers her, but then Jake is attacked by a new killer. Noah begins an obsession with the previous murders and theorizes that Piper had an accomplice, which drives feelings of unease with Audrey considering her former connection with Piper. Audrey is later harassed by someone who is aware of her interactions with Piper. Emma notices on Noah's murder mystery board a picture of a barn to which she makes a link of the place in her dreams. Curious, she and Brooke go to investigate the barn. Unknown to anyone, Jake is murdered with a scythe. Emma enters the barn and finds nothing, therefore causing her to question why she's dreaming about the barn. She then turns to see someone living the abandoned house next door. Emma enters the house seeing pictures of her younger self and clippings of the murders. She then notices a dark figure in the background and screams.

Emma, who escaped the barn unharmed with Brooke, returns with Maggie to find that nothing Emma saw earlier that evening is there anymore, Maggie reveals some truths of the past to Emma. Kieran's aunt, Tina says that Kieran has to move to Atlanta because he is living in his dad's house without a guardian. Emma turns to Ms. Lang for help when she has a hallucination of Piper. Noah finds something which leads him to a motel where the receptionist, Eddie, who claims he saw Piper's accomplice. Emma faces her fears at the dock at Wren Lake before getting followed home by someone who is revealed to be her father. Audrey is led to an abandoned warehouse where she finds Jake's body.

Audrey is shocked when she finds Jake's body, and gets a call from the killer, forcing her to flee the scene. Later, Emma returns home and tells Maggie that her father is back in Lakewood. After Emma and her father have an argument in the coffee shop, she leaves while Kevin books himself into Crescent Palms Motel. Kevin tells Maggie that he has been receiving emails from Riley Marra, which scares Maggie since Riley was murdered months ago by Piper. Eddie, who works at the motel is then stabbed to death by the killer with a corkscrew in Kevin's room. Emma goes to Crescent Palms and tries to apologize for storming out earlier but finds his motel room door open. The killer video chats Audrey a message and threatens to kill Emma. Audrey calls the police but finds Emma outside confronting her father outside the motel. Emma finds herself not being able to trust her father when he plans to leave Lakewood again without telling her and he is caught fighting a civilian. Audrey lies to the police about the reason she called the police. Emma's father reveals the truth about a past incident when Emma was young. Audrey walks Emma to her car and walks away. She then gets in her car while the killer sends her another message stating to look under her car seat where she finds the bloody corkscrew.

Audrey attempts to bury the bloody corkscrew but the killer recovers it and is found in Audrey's bed the next morning. Emma has a bad dream of Kieran getting stabbed by the killer, wakes up drastically, and later texts Kieran to say happy birthday. Against Kieran's will, Eli tells Emma that Kieran wants a surprise party which leads them to organize it at Emma's house. Sheriff Acosta begins to worry about Jake's absence. Audrey finds strange drawings of the Lakewood Six on Gustavo's iPad. At the party, Eli and Emma almost kiss and a bottle of tequila by "Jake" causes everyone to fall ill and start hallucinating. Audrey hallucinates Rachael, making her kiss Noah. Emma realizes that a new killer is out there when she is (apparently) attacked but Acosta doesn't believe her. The next day, Eli apologizes to Emma and in assembly, the Lady Of The Lake finalists are announced which leads to lots of blood and guts being dropped on Brooke. Then Jake's body falls from a banner and Brooke begins screaming as everyone watches in shock.

After Jake's body falls down in the theatre, Sherrif Acosta puts the school into lock down. Emma and her friends are then trapped inside the school with the killer. Emma finds Jake's phone in her bag, while everyone questions who put the phone in her bag. Kieran and Noah sneak off to get Kieran's bag from his locker which has his gun inside, but is caught by Deputy Dwayne. Emma comes back from questioning and sees that Haley has been talking about Emma behind her back. Emma confronts Haley, which ends in a brief fight between them. Ms. Lang takes Emma to a sleeping bay where the killer knocks on the window with his knife. Emma escapes by breaking the glass with a chair, thus cutting herself. Kieran tells Noah to run but Noah can't find a way back. Back in the library, Audrey watches Gustavo for a while before Noah comes through the Emergency Door and confronts her on why she's been acting strange. She walks towards Gustavo and takes his iPad while showing everyone his graphic sketches of the Lakewood Six. Gustavo is beaten by the other students, before the fight broken up by Acosta. When the school officially opened, Noah steals Audrey's phone. In his car, Noah sees that Audrey has been involved with the murder of Jake.

Emma and Noah investigate a tip from Ed at the local amusement park. Noah and Audrey are kidnapped, seemingly by the killer, and Audrey confesses to Noah about her encounter with Jake's dead body. Audrey is confused when Noah says that Ed was the one who tipped him off, knowing that Ed was killed. It is revealed that Audrey was the one that kidnapped Noah, to prove to him that she isn't the killer. They escape and Emma manages to track down Noah and Audrey at the amusement park after having a brief encounter with the killer. The three leave the funhouse and run into Kieran, who followed Emma there. Brooke asks Gustavo to retrieve files from the police station about Branson. Brooke lures Branson into a hotel and threatens to kill him if he doesn't confess to killing Jake, to no avail. Believing him, Brooke leaves the room, leaving Branson handcuffed to the bed. Audrey tells Noah about her connections with Piper: Audrey wanted Piper's help to make a documentary about Brandon James, and when people started dying, Piper lied to Audrey saying it wasn't her, making Audrey blame herself for the murders. She tells Noah everything about the texts and the storage room and asks Noah to not tell Emma as she wants to herself. Unbeknown to Noah and Audrey, their whole conversation was accidentally recorded. The killer enters the room where Branson is still handcuffed. The killer cuts off Branson's hand and then puts a hot iron onto the stump.

Emma is mad at Kieran for talking to Sherriff Acosta about her behind her back and Eli takes advantage of the situation to take Emma to an abandoned house and try to make a move on her. Meanwhile when Brooke thinks that Branson is texting her and threatening to expose her misdeeds in the hotel room, it is really the killer who texts Audrey to come to the school alone or else he'll expose her to Brooke. At the school, Audrey and Brooke discover the barely conscious Miss Lang, who if not for the school's janitor would have been finished off by the killer. Also, Maggie and Acosta apparently have a secret regarding Brandon James and events at the farmhouse when Emma was a child. Zoe discovers Audrey's secret on Noah's podcast and e-mails it to an unknown person. The killer sets the abandoned house on fire, forcing Eli and Emma to flee. Both are unaware that a barely alive Branson is trapped inside the home with Eddie's corpse, about to burn to death.

At the annual Lakewood carnival, Audrey tries to work up the courage to tell Emma about her bringing Piper to Lakewood; Brooke gets drunk before her speech for the Lady of the Lake pageant and, Zoe wins the pageant; she and Noah are close again to being intimate when she decides he's not ready. Audrey begins suspecting Eli as the killer after a fight between him and Kieran leads to Emma telling Audrey about a restraining order against Eli by a girl in Atlanta. The killer abducts Kieran (off-screen) and takes him to the house of mirrors before luring Emma there; once inside, Deputy Dwayne, who arrived to help Emma, is thrown in a mirror and killed while Emma gets his gun to shoot the killer. However, the killer uses Kieran as a decoy, who is almost shot by Emma before his mask is taken off. He then tells Emma that the reason his stepfather went off the road, killing him and Kieran's mother is because Kieran was distracting him by arguing with him in the car. Meanwhile Zoe's email is revealed to have been sent to Emma, who learns the truth about Audrey right before Audrey was going to tell her. Also, Maggie and Acosta continue to keep their secret while Acosta begins seriously suspecting his son is the killer.

Emma is furious with Audrey for not telling her that she brought Piper to Lakewood. Audrey confronts Noah about the e-mail and he tells her that he didn't send it. They try to figure out who did, leading Audrey to suspect that Zoe did it. Noah comes to her defense and tells Audrey that she needs to talk to Emma. Meanwhile, Emma and Kieran investigate Ms. Lang, who apparently has an obsession with Emma and grew up with Piper at an orphanage. Elsewhere, the killer throws a party at the orphanage, signing it off as being thrown by Emma and Audrey; Emma learns that Haley is somehow involved with the party. Haley tells Emma that she's just helping out "a very special friend" that she's seeing. Also, Stavo learns that his dad suspects him as the killer, and he finds a suspicious texting conversation between Jake and Brooke's dad. It is revealed that Haley's "very special friend" is the killer, who she has unknowingly been dating and helping. While the killer stabs Haley to death, Emma and Audrey find Piper's long dead corpse (which was never found until now). The cops eventually break up the party to find Haley's corpse hanging in front of a banner that says "Face the mask".

Emma interrogates Audrey about why she brought Piper to Lakewood. Audrey did not know that Piper was the killer, but she knew that Piper was Emma's half sister. After Zoe doesn't show up for class, someone using Zoe's phone texts Noah and lures him to Wren Lake. Meanwhile, flashbacks reveal that Maggie and Sheriff Acosta hid the injured Brandon James, who was still alive after his gunshot at the lake, but don't know where he is now. Noah wakes up to find himself in a coffin, buried underground, with a camera watching him. Emma and Audrey figure out that they look behind the murder board, where they find a clue that leads them to a barn by Wren Lake. They manage to dig Noah out of his coffin but when they upon Zoe's coffin, they find her dead. The police and Maggie arrive to investigate where Noah was buried and Zoe's body is taken away. In bed, Emma confides in her mother, that they could have saved Zoe. Maggie puts a note in the tree in the house's yard, telling the killer to leave Emma alone. Eli watches Maggie from afar.

Disarming the alarm, the killer is shown sneaking into Emma's house and room. He takes her diary and flees as Emma is waking up. She knows that the killer was there and gets out of bed to find him, finding the back door open ajar and a little wooden heart with the word, "Emma" written on it. She calls the cops. Meanwhile, the gang visits Noah at the hospital, to find him grieving Zoe's death. He tells them that his obsession with the slasher is over and he'll be shutting down "The Morgue". He also asks them to go to his house and clean off the murder board. At Noah's house, Emma finds a news article of Will's funeral, noticing Eli standing in the background. This leads them all to strongly suspect Eli; Eli leaves a message on Mayor Maddox's desk telling him anonymously to meet him at the barn. The mayor meets a bloody end at the barn and Emma and Audrey find themselves being framed for the murder...along with every other murder the killer has committed. Also, Stavo visits Noah and ends up convincing him to continue "The Morgue". While uploading a tribute episode to Zoe, Noah is hacked and a video is shown all over the internet of the killer's work so far. Lastly, Acosta questions Ms. Lang, who says that Emma is obsessed with Piper and it's an issue.

The killer causes the police car with Emma and Audrey to crash; he kills Deputy Stevens and gives Emma and Audrey the keys to their handcuffs, who take Stevens' gun. Afterward, he calls them and tells them he wants to play a game and someone they love will die if they are caught by the police. Brooke and Noah learn of Emma and Audrey's location which is at the movie theater and they, with Kieran, join them. At the theater, the killer strikes and stabs Brooke; she is taken to the hospital while Emma flees to avoid the police and Audrey is nowhere to be found. The killer tells Emma that Audrey is at the orphanage where Piper grew up and to come alone or else Audrey will die. At the orphanage, the killer attacks Emma but retreats when she shoots at him with Stevens' gun and finds Audrey tied up. Moments later, Kieran shows up followed by Eli who each accuse each other of being the killer. When Eli tries to stab Kieran, Emma shoots him but he survives. Afterward, Kieran says Emma and Audrey will feel safe soon which is close to what the killer said to her earlier. Emma realizes Kieran is the killer and he confirms this by shooting Eli dead. He explains that he and Piper were romantically involved, Piper convinced him to become her accomplice. He wanted Emma and Audrey to suffer for killing her. A brief struggle ensues where Audrey restrains Kieran and Emma has the gun to his face; however, she decides not to kill him but let him rot in prison. Sheriff Acosta shows up and takes Kieran into custody. Maggie finds the note she left for Brandon James with blood on it and a knife pinning it to the tree. Noah's podcast reveals Kieran as Piper's accomplice and he questions whether or not Lakewood will ever be free of the slasher. Emma and Audrey become close friends while Brooke is becoming closer to Stavo and his father. In prison, Kieran is informed that someone is waiting on the phone for him. He picks up and someone says, using the voice changer previously used by Piper and Kieran when making the calls as the killer, "Hello Kieran. Who told you you could wear my mask?", much to Kieran's clear surprise, heavily implying that there is another killer on the loose that he didn't know about.

Eight months after Kieran's arrest, the new Brandon James slasher kills him in the courthouse; the remaining Lakewood Six are shocked by his murder and with Halloween being one year since Piper's unmasking, they decide to take a vacation from Lakewood and travel to Shallow Grove Island where Stavo and Noah (now published authors, having written a book about the murder of their friends) and their book editor Jeremy are doing research on Anna Hobbs-a girl who supposedly killed her mother, brother, and the man having an affair with her mother, Reginald Whitman-hoping to write a new book. Emma meets a guy named Alex Whitman, descendant of the man killed by Anna; the two take a romantic interest in each other. After a party in which Jeremy pranks the survivors and Stavo invites a woman named Billie to make Brooke jealous after believing she doesn't want him to go with her to New York for college, Billie is killed by someone wearing an Anna Hobbs mask and using shears, along with a store clerk named Sid. Emma sees Billie's body when the killer calls her using the Brandon James voice claiming she will never be rid of him.

The gang unsuccessfully attempt to escape on Alex's boat, which was stolen. The town's sheriff is also killed and his severed head is placed on the doorstep of Alex's mansion. After being missing in action, Jeremy returns and is upset that everyone believes he is the killer and he is locked in the closet by Alex. However, he escapes and he discovers a picture of Billie and the real Alex Whitman, revealing the Alex they know is an imposter and the killer; Alex, whose real name is Tom Martin, then kills Jeremy. Noah, Audrey, Brooke, and Stavo travel through a secret passageway from the mansion to Billie's house. There, Noah deduces that instead of Anna being the killer, she and her family were attacked by Reginald and he was only killed by Anna in self-defense after stabbing and attempting to rape her. Anna later died from her injuries. Emma is briefly attacked by Tom in his costume, but she locks him out of her room. Tom takes off the costume and gets her to let him in the room with her by pretending to be Alex. However, Emma discovers the dead body of the real Alex and realizes that Tom is the killer. Tom explains that his parents were murdered and he, like Emma, is a survivor and he felt it necessary to kill anyone standing in the way of a relationship between the two after seeing her on the news. Tom also reveals he didn't kill Kieran and doesn't know who did. When Emma explains that she doesn't love him, he chases her until she shoves him off the balcony of the mansion to his death. Back in Lakewood, as Noah questions on his podcast who killed Kieran, Emma's father, Kevin, is shown standing at Kieran's grave and a man named "Mr. James" checks into a hotel...
