List of Oromo subgroups and clans

The Oromo people are divided into two major branches: the Borana Oromo and Barentu Oromo. These two major groups are in turn subdivided into an assortment of clan families. From west to east and north to south, these subgroups are listed in the sections below.

The Borana

The Borana include:

The Bareento/Bareentuma include:

• The Walloo Oromo, who are the northernmost group, and live predominantly in the Oromia Zone of the Amhara Region, as far north as Lake Ashenge; they are also found in the southern Raya Azebo woreda in the Tigray Region.
