Anatomical terms of neuroanatomy

A lemniscus (Greek for ribbon or band[1]) is used as an anatomic term to describe a bundle of secondary sensory fibres in the brainstem. It can refer to the medial lemniscus or lateral lemniscus which terminate in specific relay nuclei of the diencephalon. The trigeminal lemniscus is also referred to and this is sometimes considered as the cephalic part of the medial lemniscus.
