Lehighton Area School District

Location of Lehighton Area School District in Carbon County

The Lehighton Area School District is located just north of the Blue Mountain range extending along the Lehigh River in Carbon County, Pennsylvania.

The district is composed of four communities which are served by the Lehighton Area School District over a sixty-seven-square-mile area. East Penn Township is to the south of the town/borough of Lehighton; Mahoning Valley os to the west along route 443 and Franklin Township is located on the east side of the river.

The school district comprises four elementary schools: Shull David, Franklin, Mahoning and East Penn. All elementary schools include full-day kindergarten and house grades one through four.

The single middle school comprises grades five through eight in the renovated high school centrally located in the Lehighton borough. The middle school uses the team teaching approach having a maroon and white team per grade level that consists of four core teachers for each team (math, science, language, and social studies). The high school facility was built in 1993. It currently has 726 students, 56% male and 44% female. Its current graduation rate is 82%.[1]
