Lajos Werkner (October 23, 1883 in Budapest November 12, 1943 in Budapest) was a Hungarian sabre fencer.

Olympic career

He won gold medals in Team Sabre at the 1908 and 1912 Olympic Games.[1]

At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, his gold medal teammates included Jewish fencers Dr. Jenö Fuchs and Oskar Gerde, both International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame honorees, and Dezsö Földes. Werkner also competed in the individual sabre event, finishing in 8th place.[2]

At the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm, his gold medal teammates were again Foldes, Fuchs, and Gerde. He finished seventh in the individual event.[2]

Hall of Fame

Werkner, who was Jewish, was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.[2]
