Kurian Kachappilly (born 6 July 1955, at Mallussery,[1] in Kerala, India). He is a Catholic religious priest, a member of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) order, and a professor of philosophy and religion.

Biography

Kachappilly was ordained a priest on 6 May 1986.[2] His mother tongue is Malayalam. He has the good command over languages such as English, German, and Hindi. Additionally, he has working knowledge in languages such as Latin, French, and Dutch. At present, he is the Provincial of the St. Paul CMIProvince, Bhopal.

Later career

Kachappilly is a Professor of Philosophy, Religion and Management at Vidya Kshetram and Christ University, both in Bangalore, India. He is the author of several books, including Mysticism without Bounds and Mystic Musing in World Religions. His most popular books include "God of Love" and "Between Partners". Kachappilly studied philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram. During 1992-1996, he earned a Licentiate and PhD in Philosophy from the University of Leuven, Belgium. He started his career, teaching English Literature in Guna (MP); served as Youth Animator in Bangalore Archdiocese; taught philosophy at Darsana Institute of Philosophy, Wardha (MS, India); and is teaching philosophy in the Faculty of Philosophy at DVK, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He is at present the Provincial of St Paul Province Bhopal. He has also served as the Associate Director of Research Centre, Christ University, Bangalore, India. He has been a Visiting Faculty at K.U. Leuven, Belgium; UST, Manila, Philippines; BCT, Brisbane, Australia; and FHWS, Wuerzburg, Germany. He has presented more than 60 scholarly papers at international/National Conferences and Seminars. He has also served as resource person for several conferences. He is a well-known organizer of international conferences, like 7th International Whitehead Conference, Christ University, Bangalore; "Mysticism without Bounds", Christ University, Bangalore; and "Bounds of Ethics in a Globalized World", in which His Holiness Dalai Lama was the Chief Guest and key-note Speaker.He has visited more than 70 countries in all continents. He has a special hobby: Collection of OWLS - he now possesses more than 700 Owls - from different countries and different types.

Major contributions

Kachappilly was the chief organizer of the International Process Philosophy Congress in Bangalore (2009).[3] About 500 philosophers and intellectuals from Asia, Africa, Europe and United States attended this seventh international conference, jointly organized by Dharmaram College, Bangalore, Christ University, Bangalore and International Process Network (IPN). The second major conference was on "Mysticism without Bounds" (2011), and the Chief Guest was His Holiness Dalai Lama; and "Bounds of Ethics in a Globalized World" (2014), in which delegates and representatives from seventy plus countries took part.
