Kumarapuram is a panchayat town in Kanniyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Kumarapuram had a population of 13,759. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kumarapuram has an average literacy rate of 79%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 78%. In Kumarapuram, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.Manalikarai St.Mary Goretty Higher secondary school is one of the famous Higher secondary school. This Town Panchayat is including Kotticode police station. Kumarapuram Post Pin Code Number is 629189. VeliMalai hills is biggest mount in the town panchayat. This is one big village is kotticode.[2] including Cholapuram,Koozhakadai, saral vilai, valiyavilai Kotticode is including Mead Memorial C.S.I Church,St.Pius Catholic Church cholapuram, Mead memorial Primary school, Govt.middle school kotticode and Arul Jothy English Primary School.In kumarapuram there is one church situated in the center part of the village, St. Michael Archangels Church, Michael Nager.

Kumarapuram is a Panchayat town with Padmanabhapuram as its state assembly constituency in the green and vibrant Kanyakumari District. It also includes a part of Kodhanaloor and Velimalai. It is tucked between Thovalai, Thiruvattar, Verkilambi and Kodhanallur.[3]

The Panchayat town comprises the small towns Manalikarai, Manakkavilai,Poovangaparambu, Kotticode, Koozhakadai, Karumbarai, Kaithodu, Perinchilambu, Pannipothai, Velimalai. Many years back the towns Perunchilambu, Pannipothai, Velimalai etc. had rich agriculture lands. All these small towns that were once known for their sprawling paddy fields have given way to Rubber Estates.The 6th temple of famous Sivalaya Ottam on 'Sivarathri' festival namely 'Pannipakam' and Chamundeshwari Temple and Badhrakaliamman Temple,Poovangaparambu is also situated in this town panchayat.

Living style

Even though it is a town panchayat, Kumarapuram is a place with typical village living style. Both Tamil and Malayalam speaking people are living here.

Topograpghy

The area receives very heavy rainfall throughout the year.
