Kshitij Thakur (Marathi: क्षितीज हितेंद्र ठाकूर) is an Indian politician. He is currently holding the office of Member of Legislative Assembly for the constituency of Nala Sopara in the state of Maharashtra, India. He is the son of Hitendra Thakur, current M.L.A. of the region and previously for four consecutive terms. He belongs to the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi party which has a strong base in the region of Vasai and Virar in Palghar (formerly part of Thane ) district of Maharashtra. He was married on 30 January 2012 in Virar.[1]

Kshitij Thakur's father, Hitendra Thakur was the M.L.A. of the region for four consecutive terms, the first as a candidate of the Indian National Congress and the next three as an independent candidate.

Vidhan Sabha Elections

In the 2009 Maharashtra state assembly elections, Hitendra Thakur stepped down voluntarily to make way for his son to enter Indian politics. After delimitation, the Vasai constituency was divided into Vasai and Nala Sopara.Kshitij Hitendra Thakur is one of the youngest members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. At 26, his election as MLA for the Nala Sopara constituency of Maharashtra marked a major step for the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi party. Since 2009, Kshitij has helped the party take several strides of popularity in an already strong base the party had in the Vasai and Virar region. In his first election Kshitij Thakur won with a margin of more than 40,000 votes. He got 89,284 votes, while his opposition Shiv Sena candidate Shirish Chavan got 48,502 votes. MNS aspirant Vivek Keluskar got 20,749 votes.[2]

Marriage

On 29 January 2012, Thakur tied the knot at a mass marriage function at Chandansar in Virar.[3] In the function, 1062 young couples across Thane district also got married along with Thakur. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan, Manikrao Thakre, MP Sanjeev Naik, Vasant Davkhare, Ramdas Kadam, Gopal Shetty, Sanjay Raut, local MP Baliram Jadhav, filmstar and Virar boy Govinda, Aditya Pancholi, Johnny Lever, Milind Gunaji, diamond merchant Bharat Shah were present to bless the newly wedded couples. The Mayor of Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation Rajeev Patil and his deputy Sagir Dange welcomed the guests on a 200-acre open plot at Chandansar. For the first time in the state more than 1000 couples, in more than 16 mandaps, got married. The entire expense of this function was carried out by Viva Charitable Trust,

Education

Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Baldwin Wallace University in USA (2004), a master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Mumbai University (2008), and a degree in Real Estate Management from Harvard University in USA (2010). Kshitij is currently pursuing a PHD in Education from Mumbai University and has completed the 'Owners President Management Program' from Harvard University, USA in May, 2013.
