Kothagudem is a Cosmopolitan and Industrial Town in Telangana. Kothagudem is a town in Bhadradri Kothagudem district of the Indian state of Telangana. Kothagudem is informally called as Indian "New York" which is literal translation from Telugu to English (Kotha = New , Gudem =York). It is the head quarters of Bhadradri Kothagudem district. It is located in Kothagudem mandal of the Kothagudem revenue division.[2]

Geography

Kothagudem is located at 17°33′00″N 80°37′05″E / 17.55°N 80.618°E / 17.55; 80.618. It has an average elevation of 89 metres (295 ft) above seal level.[3] The North of Kothagudem borders Chhattisgarh state which is approximately 120 km from the town.

Climate

Kothagudem is known for its record high temperatures during summer, often crossing 48 °C (118 °F) mark.[4] It also has two extreme temperatures in the state as it touches 10 °C (50 °F) during winters and 50 °C (122 °F) during summers.

Kothagudem Municipality was constituted in 1971 and is classified as a first grade municipality with 33 election wards. The jurisdiction of the civic body is spread over an area of 16.10 km2 (6.22 sq mi).[1]

Kothagudem is well connected by road and rail. Kothagudem is approximately 280 km from Hyderabad by road and 140 km from Vijayawada.

The name of Kothgudem Railway Station is Bhadrachalam Road (BDCR).

The Government of Telangana has put up lot of efforts to establish an airport in Kothagudem. There is a proposal to establish Greenfield Airport at Kothagudem. Kothagudem Airport will be ready for operations by Dec 2017.
