Kosamba is a city and a municipality situated in the Mangrol Taluka in Surat district in the Indian state of Gujarat. Kosamba comes under Surat Metropolitan Region. Kosamba consists of Twin Towns of (1)Tarsadi Nagarpalika and (2) Kosamba Gram Panchayat. Of these two municipalities, Tarasadi is larger than Kosamba. Though they have independent civic bodies, both are generally known as Kosamba.

Geography

Kosamba is located at 21°29′N 72°57′E / 21.48°N 72.95°E / 21.48; 72.95.[1] It has an average elevation of 13 metres (42 feet).

Kosamba is well linked with NH-8, has railway station which has connectivity to Mumbai and Ahmedabad.Hansot-Mosali State Highway No 160, Kosamba-Moti Pardi Road,Sahol-Kosamba State High Way, Mahuvej Road,Kim -Kosamba Balapir Road, Kosamba-Karmali Road, Hathuran Road.

Rail

As Kosamba station is a major junction having good stoppages of Local as well as Express Trains like lokshakti Express and Saurashtra Janata Express which stop at Kosamba after starting from Surat. Nowadays a computer reservation system has started at Kosamba Station. Mr.Akhtar Kureaisi is a Sarpanch of Kosamba Panchayat and Mrs Indiraben Sapariya is current President of Tarsadi Nagar Palika.

Eatery

In Kosamba there are many famous eating joints.Especially, Adam's, cowboys, Food-Lovers, Buddy-baithak and Northstar. On highway, which is around 4 km from the town, there are numerous dining options. Particularly, Ashirwad hotel is known for 'Only Veg' meals.Also Rose Garden , Amliwala and 'Surjit' hotel are popular in the region.

Functions and notable places

Gujarat state's famous nine-day festival navaratri is celebrated joyously every year in Kosamba. Some of the famous points of this festival are Birladham, jhin and Mahadevnagar. Every year, there is a small fair held in the town at the end of the monsoon featuring roadside stalls and hawkers selling a variety of products ranging from plastic toys to home decoratons. Each of the schools hold annual functions and sports-days at the end of the academic year. Kosamba is famous for its jewellery showrooms. Big enterprises like Kalamandir and K.M. Choksi jewellers started in Kosamba. Rich businessmen are mostly concentrated in Jhanda Chowk and the Somnath Society. K.P. Park society at the south end is the center of SS-Boss Karate classes started by Mr. Singh. The society is also home to the beauty queen Ms. Mahima Sharma, known for her amazing body. Glass and sugar factories offer jobs and livelihood to the townspeople. Business including shop-owning and farm-owning are other modes of income for the townspeople of Kosamba.

Education

Kosamba is known for quality schools offering high class education. There is also a very famous school name Sarvajanik School, it has two sections, one is English medium and second is Gujarati medium.

Shree V S Patel High School is oldest in the area - offering schooling from Jr Kg till 12th. The school has different divisions for Boys and Girls for secondary section. Her Excellency, the Governor of Gujarat, Mrs Kamladevi Beniwal, visited Shree V S Patel High School on the occasion of inauguration of new school building.

There are few government schools also operating and giving schooling to students of the area. A Y Dadabhai Technical Institute is self-financed-institute offering Diploma Engineering courses in various branches.

The most famous among the schools is ABPS(Aditya Birla Public School) which is 5 km away in a nearby village known as Kharach. It is a private school under the multinational company, Birla. Originally this school was opened only for children living in the Birla housing colony but soon students from Kosamba town started flowing in. Today more than 70% of the students are from Kosamba and have made the school's name famous among all nine ABPS schools spread across India. The most notable cases were Mandeepsinh Vashi's 95% score in the HSc. exams of 2015, seven 10th grade students receiving 10 CGPA in SSc. exams 2014, three groups of students getting selected for final round of Robotics competition etc.
