Koit Toome (born 3 January 1979^[1][2]) is an Estonian singer and musical actor.

Career

In late 1994, a highly successful pop duo Code One, consisting of Koit Toome and Sirli Hiius was formed by the producer Mikk Targo. A long run of top hits in Estonian music charts were to follow until 1998, when the duo split.

In 1998, Koit Toome represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Birmingham. He finished 12th with 36 ponts with the song "Mere lapsed".^[3] The same year he recorded his debut solo album of mostly self-penned material on it. Toome has released five albums all together, both as a solo artist and with Code One.

In 2007 he won Tantsud tähtedega (Dancing with the Stars) with Kertu Tänav.

In March 2010, he released Koit Toome first studio album, named "Kaugele siit" ("Far from here").^[4][5]

Koit Toome has also embarked on a voice acting career, dubbing animated films. He provided the Estonian voice for Lightning McQueen in the Disney movie Cars.^[6]

Musical Theatre

Koit Toome's debut in a musical was in the role of Alfred in Tanz der Vampire, shortly followed by Marius of Les Misérables, Chris in Miss Saigon and Tony in West Side Story. Several other lead roles in Chess, Rent and Hair were all to follow in Estonia and Germany.

As of the fall of 2014, he is starring either as Raoul or the Phantom in "The Phantom of the Opera" in theatre Vanemuine.

Personal life

Toome comes from a prominent family, with his uncle Indrek Toome the Prime Minister of Estonia (1988–1990).
