Kingdom Breweries is a Cambodian craft beer brewery, located in Phnom Penh, Cambodia founded by Leopard Capital. The brewery sits alongside the banks of the Tonlé Sap river[1] on the north end of Cambodia's capital, and is housed in a renovated factory formerly occupied by Nestlé. The company was co-owned by Leopard Cambodia Fund, Cambodia's first private equity fund operated by frontier markets private equity firm Leopard Capital,[2] and Charles Street International.

Kingdom launched its first beer, Clouded Leopard Pilsener in September 2010,[3] which was awarded a Belgian Monde Selection Gold Quality Award in 2011.[4] However, Monde Selection awards are non-competitive and only products that pay to enter are judged.

In June 2014 Leopard Capital placed its controlling interest (55%) in the company up for sale, as part of its eight lifespan.[5]

Products

Currently, Kingdom offers three types of beer:

Tanks inside Kingdom Breweries

Brewing

The brewery operates with a 35 HL 5 vessel brewhouse including mash tun, control board, lauter tun, water tanks, kettle and whirlpool. At full capacity, Kingdom carries out 156 brews per month with a capacity of 3,500 L per brew.

Fermentation

The beer is brewed in accordance with the German purity laws. Thus, the only ingredients are water, yeast, hops and malt. The total time for fermenting and brewing is 4 weeks. The brewery has 8 fermenting/storage tanks with a capacity of 80,400 L.

Filtration

The brewery operates two filtration systems. While the product is moved from a fermentation tank to a bright beer tank for packaging, the beer is sifted through diatomaceous earth (also referred to as “Kieselguhr”) and Pall candle filters.

Packaging and bottling

The packaging starts at the Bright Beer Tanks from where the product is pumped into bottling and keg filling lines. The brewery has two 55 HL bright beer tanks and the bottling line operates at 2,000 bottles per hour. The facility fills kegs at a maximum capacity of 60 kegs per hour for 10 L keg and 20 Kegs per hour for 30 L keg.

Bus tour and taproom

Kingdom Breweries offers scheduled tours around Phnom Penh in a double decker bus - the only one of its kind within Cambodia. The brewery also has a bar and lounge known as the Taproom,[7] where visitors have an opportunity to sample the brewery's variety of beers and take guided tours of the facility.[8]

Distribution

Kingdom beer is distributed throughout Cambodia at over 700 outlets, as well as export markets such as the United Kingdom, France, and Hong Kong.[9]
