King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT, มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี) is an engineering and technology academy in Thailand, focusing on teaching, researching as well as serving industry. It is located in Thung Khru district, Bangkok and was founded on April 18, 1960.

History

King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi can trace its origin to the Thonburi Technical College (TTC) which was established on February 4, 1960 by the Department of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education. TTC has an objective in training of technicians, technical instructors and technologists. By the virtue of the Technology Act, enacted April 21, 1971, three technical institutes are under the Department of Vocational Education: Thonburi Technical Institute (TTI), North Bangkok Technical Institute, and Nonthaburi Telecommunication Institute. They were combined to form one degree-granting institution under the name of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology (KMIT) constituting three campuses. TTC thus became KMIT Thonburi campus. In 1974, KMIT was transferred from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of University Affairs.

A new Technology Act was enacted February 19, 1986: the three campuses of KMIT became three autonomous institutes, each having the status of university. KMIT Thonburi campus became King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi (KMITT).

On March 7, 1998 as announced in the Royal Gazette, KMITT became King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi. KMUTT was the first among public universities in Thailand to receive full autonomy. Its administrative system is now patterned after international government-owned universities. The new act gives KMUTT total control over its budget, allows it to own and manage property, and grants authority to set up new faculties and departments as well as introduce new academic programs.

The school was established and supported by King Mongkut University of Technology, Thonburi (KMUTT). Students in the school learn from the university's teachers which mostly are from the faculty of engineering and have access to resources of the university such as faculty's labs and KMUTT library. The learning courses focus on basics in the field of engineering and technology by implementing Story Based Learning[6] into each subject.

Courses and Concept[7]

The target of Science Classrooms in the University-Affiliated School Project (SCiUS) is to produce the new generation of scientists who will play a significant part in developing the country.[8] From this concept, the SCiUS project focuses on developing the process of thinking/problem solving, and providing a wider vision of the world in order to develop the students to become a good world citizens. In order to archive that aim, the school was developed with the concept of Story Based Learning.[6] Story Based Learning is a way of learning that arranges knowledge as a story of history. The student will be able to understand and connect knowledges to history and also able to apply their knowledge to solve real life problems effectively. Learning from the origin of human knowledges shows the connection between each field like science, mathematics and engineering. The student will see how humans develop their knowledge through real world history. The course purpose is mainly aim to produce those who can relate and apply knowledge to become a good engineer or innovator in the future.
