Kilmessan

Kilmessan (Irish: Cill Mheasáin meaning "Church of Messan"^[1]) is a village in County Meath, Ireland. Kilmessan is an unspoiled, small, rural village with a population of under 600 people. It is a quaint little place where everyone knows everyone and you are always met with a friendly hello from all the locals. Although it is a very small town it is situated just 10/15 minutes away from Dunshaughlin, Trim and Navan, and the new motor way is very near too. However, due to its attractions such as its 4 starts restaurants, The Station House Hotel and Monto's, many people come to visit the small, peaceful village. The village also has a primary school, shop, post office, several pubs beauty salon etc. Located in Kilmessan is The Station House Hotel which boasts 4 stars and beautiful gardens. Kilmessan railway station is planned to be reopened as part of the proposed line from Dunboyne to Navan.

Sport

Kilmessan GAA club plays hurling. They are the most successful hurling club in Meath having won the Meath championship 29 times. The Kilmessan men won the Leinster Championship in 2008 against a strong Erin's own team and were unlucky not to reach the all-Ireland final having lost the semi-final after extra-time. Kilmessan are always strong contenders for the Meath championship title^[2] Kilmessan Bowls Club - affiliated to IIBA.^[3] Kilmessan also have a Camogie Club. There are two adult teams, senior and intermediate. The senior team are always strong contenders for the county title with the pick of essentially two panels of players. Kilmessan became All Ireland junior club champions in 2014. It was the first time a Meath team had won the title. The club won their first Leinster championship in 2010. This recent success is under the management of John Watters. In 2013 the village completed the imfamous double when both the Senior Hurling and Senior Camogie succeed within the county to gain the title of county champions within the same weekend.
