Khairul Azhan Khalid (born 7 November 1989) is a Malaysian footballer who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Selangor FA.[1]

Career

The Kuantan-born custodian, he is also known as Yan among teammates. He started his career as a footballer with Pahang FA President's Cup Team under-21 as the main Goalkeeper.

He participated in the 2010 Sukma Games, representing Pahang state. Khairul continued his development through Pahang FA feeder team, Shahzan Muda FC in the FAM League.

Yan was Dollah Salleh's third choice goalkeeper in early 2013 season but injuries to Rosfaizul Azuar Ali and Mohd Nasril Nourdin in April saw the budding goalkeeper called into action. He has not looked back since as Dollah kept his faith in Yan.[2]

In November 2014, he won a grand double, winning the best goalkeeper and Most Valuable Player of the Year accolades at Thursday’s 100PLUS-FAM national football awards ceremony. [3]

Played a key role in the Elephants’ success in the M-League 2014 season. The East Coast side won both the FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

International career

On 14 February, Khairul Azhan and midfield teammate Mohd Hafiz Kamal earned their first national call ups for Malaysia's final 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualification match against Yemen.[4] Khairul made his debut in the friendly game against Philippines on 1 March 2014.[5] Khairul received praises from the media and also his coach Ong Kim Swee, after his performances keeping a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw.[6][7] Khairul however was unable to play against Yemen due to injuries sustained in the Philippines match.
