Career

Musical career

Arihara joined Hello! Project in 2004 as part of the Hello! Pro Egg. Then she joined Tomoiki Ki o Uetai from 2005 until 2006, where she moved on to the current group, Cute.

On February 26, 2009, Hello! Project announced that Arihara was having difficulty performing onstage due to having hallux valgus, or bunion deformity, and would not be able to attend the HaroTen Fanclub event that week. She would also be absent from more Hello! Project activities, including activities in Cute, while receiving treatment.[1] During her hiatus, Hello! Project announced in July that she had left the group and would not be returning in the future.[2]

Modeling career

In 2010, Arihara was signed into a model/talent agency called BLUE ROSE.[3]

Dating scandal

The September 2008 issue of the tabloid magazine BUBKA published a paparazzi article about Kanna Arihara going to the cinema to see the movie Hana Yori Dango: Final with Ryosuke Hashimoto, a member of Johnny's Jr.[4] In February 2009, it was officially announced that Kanna Arihara would refrain from activities due to treatment for hallux valgus. After Kanna Arihara left the entertainment industry on July 9, 2009, officially it being her own decision to return to the life of a normal girl, fans of the group questioned the official statement. The previous summer the magazine BUBKA published a scoop about her date with Johnny's Jr.'s Ryosuke Hashimoto. According to a women's weekly magazine (shūkanshi) reporter, soon after the publication there was an incident at a Cute handshake meeting, when some fans refused to shake Kanna's hand. She started crying in the middle of the event.[5] Despite rumors about an upcoming penitence, Hashimoto was promoted to A.B.C-Z shortly afterwards.[6]
