105.5 history

The station signed on in the early 1970s as KWYD-FM. For the first few years, KWYD-FM broadcast a country music format before flipping to a Christian radio format in 1975, programming a combination of brokered preaching/teaching programs (local and national), Inspirational music, news and information. In 1989, KWYD-FM was sold to Optima Communications which flipped the station to a NAC/Smooth Jazz format as KBZE, using the on-air moniker "The Breeze." On October 31, 2008 the KWYD FM calls where picked up by a radio station in Boise, Idaho which broadcasts a Rhythmic Contemporary format.

Two years later, the call letters and format were changed again. It became a country station with the calls KHII, using the on-air handle "K-High." Optima Communications entered into a time brokerage agreement with Pikes Peak Broadcasting Company in 1993. In the fall of 1996 Pikes Peak flipped the station back to a smooth jazz format. This time it was called "Sax 105.5" and adopted the KSKX call letters. The station remained smooth jazz until News Press & Gazette launched its News/Talk Radio format as KRDO-FM in August 2006.

Effective December 31, 2015, Pikes Peak purchased KRDO-FM from Optima for $2.5 million.

KRDO-FM history

Prior to the sale to News-Press Gazette Company, KRDO-FM was locally owned by Harry Hoth's Pikes Peak Broadcasting Company on the 95.1 frequency. The station signed on in the late 1960s broadcasting an easy listening/beautiful music format.

In 1994 KRDO-FM dropped the format due to its decline nationwide and flipped it to adult contemporary and adopted the moniker "Peak 95.1." In 1998 Peak 95.1 evolved into a Hot AC format which it maintained until Citadel Broadcasting took over operations of the station.

Citadel Broadcasting would revive the "Peak" moniker on its sister station 92.9 FM with the new call letters KKPK. The 95.1 frequency is now home to NASH FM 95.1 (KATC-FM)
