Riverdale was originally in development at Fox, with the network landing the project in 2014 with a script deal plus penalty.[27] However, Fox did not go forward with the project. The show's development was then moved to The CW in 2015. The CW officially ordered a pilot on January 29, 2016. The pilot began filming on March 14 and ended on April 1.[28] Production on the remaining 12 episodes of season one began September 7 in Vancouver.[29]
