Julie E. Adams is the current Secretary of the United States Senate.[1] She began her term as the 33rd Secretary on January 6, 2015 in the 114th Congress. Adams is the seventh woman to hold the position.[2][3]

Julie took a break from working toward obtaining a teaching certificate after graduating from Luther in 1999 to help run Rep. James Leach’s (R-Iowa) congressional campaign. When Leach won re-election, she went to Washington, D.C., where she served for 17 months as an aide to First Lady Laura Bush before joining the staff of then-Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) as deputy communications director in 2003. From September 2007 to January 2009, Ms. Adams worked at the White House as a spokesperson for First Lady Laura Bush. Ms. Adams also served as director of administration and member relations for Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, a post she held for six years. Adams, a native of Iowa City, Iowa, received her undergraduate degree in political science from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in 1999. She also earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Iowa in 2002.
