Joseph Francel (September 2, 1895  January 25, 1981)[1][2] was an electrician from Cairo, New York, who served as the state of New York's executioner from 1939 to 1953. He executed 137 people, including Julius and Ethel Rosenberg.[3][4] Francel lies buried in section 4 of Cairo Cemetery, near the village which bears the same name.[5]
