John White is a native of Maryland and lives in Annapolis. He holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Towson University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore.

Compass Marketing Inc.

White founded Compass Marketing Inc. in 1998. White initially wanted the company to define alternate channel marketing for consumer products and convince Fortune 100 manufacturers of the sales potential from the increasing consumer trend toward away from home consumption.

Powershelf

White is also co-CEO and Chairman of the Board of Powershelf. Powershelf is a technology company that develops in-store solutions for retailers. The company's Powershelf platform uses proprietary technology to provide constant power and two-way communication to the shelf-edge. The platform supports a variety of software-enabled applications and devices to deliver advertising, merchandising, and pricing services to retailers.

Smart Retail Labels (SMRs) are an integral element of the Powershelf platform.

Powershelf integrates previously separate technologies into a single solution. White's ultimate goal is that the increased efficiency and the other benefits Powershelf provides to retailers will enable a worldwide decrease in the price of goods.

2006 Congressional Campaign

In 2006, White ran as the Republican nominee for Maryland's 3rd congressional district. He ran against Democrat John Sarbanes and Libertarian Charles Curtis McPeak for the seat formerly occupied by Democrat Ben Cardin, who successfully ran for the U.S. Senate. White was defeated by Sarbanes on November 7, 2006 by a 2-to-1 margin.
